The picturesque villages of Achel and nearby Hamont, both have a short walk of about 3 km, that brings you along all the places worth seeing. Both villages have a nummer of beautiful 17th century houses built by the so called 'Teuten', merchands that travelled to Germany and Holland to sell their products.
In Achel you should also go and see the 'Achelse Kluis' just at the Dutch border. The quiet atmosphere of this trappist monastry is impressive. You cannot visit the abbey, but sipping from an Achel trappist beer watching the brewery is not a bad alternative.
Maps of the walks and tourist information are available at the local tourist office in Achel, situated in a beautiful 'Teuten mansion'.
